Hong Kong International Airport (IATA: HKG, ICAO: VHHH) is strategically situated on Chek Lap Kok, an island off the northwestern coast of Lantau Island in the New Territories of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. The airport is approximately 25 kilometers east of Hong Kong’s Central Business District and is designated as a 4F-class international airport, serving as a major international aviation hub.

The airport officially commenced operations on July 6, 1998, succeeding the former Kai Tak Airport. Key milestones in its development include the opening of the North Satellite Concourse on January 15, 2010; the activation of the Midfield Concourse adjacent to Terminal 1 on March 31, 2016; the inauguration of the Third Runway on November 25, 2022; and the official launch of the Three-Runway System on November 28, 2024.

As of November 2024, Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport encompasses an area of 610,000 square meters, including the Sky Bridge. The North Satellite Concourse covers 20,000 square meters, while the Midfield Concourse spans 105,000 square meters. The civil aviation apron accommodates 212 aircraft stands, of which 77 are equipped with jet bridges. Each of the three runways—North, Centre, and South—is 3,800 meters long and 60 meters wide.

In 2023, the airport served approximately 180 destinations worldwide. During 2022, it handled 5.656 million passengers and processed 4.199 million metric tons of cargo and mail, representing a year-on-year increase of 16.4%. The airport also recorded 139,000 aircraft movements, up 4.2% from the previous year. These figures positioned Hong Kong International Airport as the 8th busiest passenger airport and the world's busiest cargo airport globally.
