The Aeropuerto de Gran Canaria, which is known as the largest airport of the Canary Islands and serves as a stopover on Europe-South America flights, has now been implemented for Microsoft Flight Simulator by the developer team sim-wings.
The airport on the popular volcanic island was adapted to the default elevation model via terraforming. A runway with real elevation profile (sloped) and the apron of the airport on a lower level guarantee a realistic condition.
The virtual airport Gran Canaria comes with functional windsocks, PBR materials for all buildings and objects as well as realistically working VDGS Docking Systems with Aerosoft VDGS Modules.
• Highly detailed Gran Canaria Airport scenery
• Terraforming to blend airport into default elevation model
• Runway with real elevation profile (sloped) and on a lower level then the Apron of the airport
• Custom aerial photo for the airport, elaborate retouching and color-correction for a true display
• Intensive use of PBR Materials to build realistic surface for all Buildings and Objects
• Detailed ground markings based on recent charts of parking stands
• Extremely detailed Gran Canaria airport buildings with interior designs at apron side and infrastructure buildings
• Detailed animated jetway models with Lighteffects while moving
• Functional windsocks
• Many static apron vehicles
• Realistic night time dynamic lighting
• Real working VDGS Docking Systems with Aerosoft VDGS Modules

A very pleasant scenery that, not aided by any recent updates, is unfortunately beginning to show its age a little. Some of the texturing lacks variety and looks a touch 'sterile', while apron ground clutter is fairly sparse and very low-res. The terminal landside looks little better than default satellite imagery, although it does feature a little cusom modelling (e.g. the coach parking area) and a limited number of custom assets (trees/shrubs, road signs, static people, vehicles). The terminal interior is very rudimentary but that's perhaps to be expected for a mid-2022 scenery.
Airside ground textures and markings are good but some of the latter could be sharper. The terraforming across the scenery is exceptional — the western runway (21R/03L) is at a lower elevation than the main apron, and the eastern runway (21L-03R is lower still, making for a very convincing taxiing experience. The retouched ground imagery improves on the default and adds further realism. Finally, the night-lighting is very good, featuring emissive taxiway edge and hazard lights (the hazard lights extending to a handful of custom-modelled wind turbines off-airport).
Despite the airport's dated look, it's another solid Sim-Wings product that nicely captures the feel of this Canary Islands airport. The only real anomaly I noticed was a tendency for aircraft on some stands to be parked much further forward than they ought to be. A very minor annoyance but worth mentioning anyway.
